Do you want a Religion or a Relationship?

People seem to think that so many religions today are much the same. You worship God and have such and such ways of getting to heaven. People think that if your religion does nothing wrong and that if you love others and be a 'good person' all your life, you will find yourself in clouds when you die and singing with the angles. BUT I do not believe that. Some of you may be offended by what I say but I have the living power of Jesus in me and I must speak out and do what I know to be right.

If you want religion than Islam and Buddhism are great. They will give you set rules that you must meet, they will give you guide-lines about how you 'carry out' your religion. It is there before you. But that is where Christianity is completely different. It doesn't work as a 'religion'  it is not good for a 'religion' and all that goes with a 'religion'. Christianity is a relationship. And relationships take time, they take commitment, they take listening and answering, they take caring and loving, they take sharing and friendship. That is what Jesus should be to a Christian, and that is what we try to be back to Jesus. Knowing Jesus isn't about knowing what is wrong and right, it is about knowing a living person who cares so much for you and is thinking of you constantly!

I have a friend who is very intelligent, she says she believes in God, she also believes in certain types of evolution, she also believes in other things that I don't know much about. But you see the point is that you can't have your finger in every pie. My friend has created theories and collected ideas until she has almost come up with her own complicated knowledge of what she thinks God is, of what she thinks life is all about. But Christianity is so simple that  really smart people often miss it! They ponder and wonder and delve further over more and more things until their brain is swamped with meanings that they tell themselves they really do believe in.

My faith is simple- I live for Jesus. He came to earth 2,000 years ago from heaven, to die and take away my sins and all the sins of this world. Now he is Alive and defeated death! He gave me his spirit and is therefore always with me. I am a sinner and don't deserve any of it- but He gives it anyway because He is Love. And when I die I shall meet him in all his glory. Why? Because I believe he is the one and only son of God! You say 'but how can that be possible?' I tell you it takes more faith to be believe that we came from apes than what I just wrote out.
Where did the apes come from? Where did the fish come from? Where did the sea come from? What was that? Rocks? Humans came from rocks? Really???

If you really think the Bible so much like other religious books, than why not find out a little more about Jesus. Why not study the Bible back to front and find out who Jesus really is for yourself?

God Bless you all on your search in this life. I only pray that you will find him. And that one day we can rejoice together in Heaven! Praise God forever and ever, who Was and Is and Is to Come Amen!

  1. Hello, Joanne. I know it's quite strange to write about it in a comment, but I couldn't find another way to contact you :D I'm impressed by your charm, intelligence and your thoughts and very interested in your YT videos and your blog. I'm very eager to get to know you better, so could you tell me how can I send a private message to you? :)

  2. Amazing post! I have bookmarked this to read it again in the future!

Dear Jo, this was truly inspiring and thank you for coming up with it!

Oh, and by the way, Humans did not come from Rocks. We came from soil. Isn't there a book written some dozen centuries ago that tells us that God created Adam from soil? Obviously, scientists just haven't figured that out yet.

    1. Thanks mk, we did indeed come from dust but we were formed for a purpose, hand crafted and designed not merely evolved from something or other for no apparent reason

  3. Hi. Hope you are in the best of your spirits. The matter that I am going to put forth in front of you is going to be a very sad one. Hope you will understand it ponder over it, view both sides of the coin and then reply me. I also hope that God Almighty will give you the strength to know and accept the truth and I also hope that your mind like a great majority of people is not narrow but I believe it is really able. Your character is really strong and you are a very nice researcher! Now, the sad matter! Most of the people today give out their verdict with definite finality without having the complete knowledge of the matter! I understand that you are a human and you did a mistake at least for once! To know about any religion one must not look at their followers but understand the very content inside it! Now if we talk about the Christians all over the world then Christianity may well not seem as you describe it! Same is the case with Islam! You have NO right to say such words as you have without any research! You think being good is not all then. OK! Develop a relation with God being bad! What are you saying? And you don't know much about Islam,do you? Anyways I have a lot of questions to put forth in front of you. And anyone's who reads my comment is welcome too. And I hope no coward reads this. I believe you are all brave people and I hope you will research on this and either agree with me and accept the truth or disagree with me providing the facts. Do me this favour of letting me know the truth if what I provide you with is not! Check the following links out:

    1. I'll start with the last one cos I watched it first and its easy. That idiot thinks he knows history. Well, apparently either his knowledge is one sided or does not really know history.

      1) No Surnames existed in the Roman Empire. Romans followed Greek tradition. Greek noblemen started to have surnames in the middle ages and surnames were forced in the 20th century. Greeks and Romans were distinguishing themselves by place of origin and father's name. For example, Jesus' name was not Jesus Christ. Christ is a Greek word and it means 'the chosen one.' His actual name was Jesus of Nazareth.

      2) Well, he seems to be claiming that they never met Jesus. Somehow, 3 of the 4 gospel writers were apostles and the other one an aide to apostle Paul.

Something else, by the way. Muslims consider that everything that Jesus said is correct and that Jesus is a great PROPHET. But Jesus never claimed himself to be a prophet like all other prophets did. Jesus declared himself the Messiah as the old testament says.

I'll reply to the rest later if others don't cover me.

    2. Quran on Embryology - Professor Keith L. Moore

I'm not a gynecologist but the Quran is completely vague. If you look it up on the internet - so the text is readable - you will notice that the text can be understood in many ways and also that there is a lot of discussions about whether the bones are formed first or the flesh. Either way, if you read the Quran you can say it describes it both ways, so yeah somehow it wants both the pie complete and the stomach full. But who is Keith Moore? Is he trustworthy? Where does he work and who funds his research? That probably should say more than his "work" itself. It's like asking George Bush if Iraqis have biological weapons and Tony Blair if Qaddafi is a friend of Great Britain.

    3. " i convert to islam after watching this video ! "

Yeah another science video taking abstracts from the Quran to describe genetics. Well, if you read the verses of the Quran in a row that is not what that video says. By the way, most (if not all) of this can be attributed to ancient Greeks such as Empedocles, Aristotle, etc. Muslims are famous for copying Greeks in all sorts of ways starting with their flag (that's the flag of Constantinople.)

    4. THE QUR’AN
      AND
      MODERN SCIENCE

"There is, perhaps, no better illustration of the close links between Islam and science than the Prophet Muhammad’s often-quoted statements:

“Seeking knowledge is compulsory on every Muslim.”

“wisdom is the lost property of the believer.”

“whoever follows a path seeking knowledge, Allah will make his path to paradise easy.”
      "

That's probably why you see all those north Americans and Europeans lining up outside those middle eastern "countries" begging to get in. Oh wait!

Ok, after no thought and realizing that over 99% of everything has been invented in Europe and North America, this should appear funny.

"Did you see how Allah created seven heavens, one above the other, and made in them the moon a light and the sun a lamp?" Qur’an, 78:12-13

      Stars and Planets

The word ‘star’ (najm) in the Qur’an ( 86:3 ) is accompanied by the adjective thaaqib which indicates that it burns and consumes itself as it pierces through the shadows of the night. It was much later discovered that stars are heavenly bodies producing their own light like the sun.

In the Qur’an, a different word, kawkab, is used to refer to the planets which are celestial bodies that reflect light and do not produce their own light like the sun.

Guess Muhammad did not know that Moon does not produce light.

“Have you not seen that Allah sent rain down from the sky and caused it to penetrate the ground and come forth as springs, then He caused crops of different colors to grow...” Qur’an,39:21

Such notions seem quite natural to us today, but we should not forget that, not so long ago, they were not prevalent. It was not until the sixteenth century, with Bernard Palissy, that we gained the first coherent description of the water cycle.

      Job 36:27-29
For He draws up drops of water,
Which distill as rain from the mist,
      Which the clouds drop down
      And pour abundantly on man.
Indeed, can anyone understand the spreading of clouds,
      The thunder from His canopy?

... I won't give it any more of my time. This text is obviously neither fair nor pragmatic and is written in a way to attribute everything to the Quran. Well, after all this reading (thanks to you) I now consider the Quran the largest work of plagiarism ever written.

You get contradictory statements all along the Holy Bible. I respect and will not like mk say anything bad to anyone's religion but give proof. Bible is God's book sent down but it is the Holy personalities in Church you had back then changed it for their own reasons! Advantages!) Knowing Jesus isn't about knowing what is wrong and right, it is about knowing a living person who cares so much for you and is thinking of you constantly!(what a way of dissolving the boundary between right and wrong)( I thought Christians always claimed that they were very logical and they always asked for proofs ,that's quite impressive)

    1. I'm not going to go on and on. I don't want to start a fight, but if my Faith in Jesus begins that in some shape or form, I am not afraid to stand against it. You obviously haven't understood the point of my blog- it was a relationship or a religion. I never said that the Bible was not important, it is one of the most vital ways that God speaks to us and without it Christianity is not what it should be! There in his living word gathered by his servants but always by God's own purpose, in his own guiding hand, there is where I hear his still quiet voice comforting me. Is that religion? Or is that the sign of a God who loves so much that he is Love. There in his words are not some stuffy old rules and regulations, though some of the Old Testament contains values and facts on how the people should live, but there in the psalms and the New Testament is a bubbling communication between God and his people. God is alive through his word and within his people!

    3. Hello All,

The truth lies deep within as well as beyond all religious borders. The truth requires a very unbiased and courageous approach. No amount of arguing or debating will ever lead to any form of realization.
Joanna has understood and put in the right words the significance of faith and personal relationship, above anything. It is true in many ways.
Trust me, if a man is able to weep and burn with the desire to know and feel the Lord Almighty, he will, by constant remembrance and love towards God.
But my humble message to all including Joanna - Everyone on this planet is unique. And all have their own ways of achieving realization. I feel, this creates an opportunity for myriad number of ways and paths. It just adds to the beauty of the diversity we experience here. Instead of judging One's ways as right or wrong, let us just stay unbiased and non-apprehensive. Imagine if all looked the same, wore the same clothes, ate the same food, lived in similar looking houses, did the same things all over the world. Wouldn't it be one unimaginably monotonous existence? Just as we enjoy different cultures, races, & languages, can we not enjoy the various versions and ways leading to One Divinity.

Christ, Buddha and Muhammed were the greatest of many saints that walked on this Earth. They do not belong to one community or religion. Their teachings were truly universal. They are mine as much as they are yours. We humans have compartmentalized them and associated them with one particular set of people. We made religions in their names. And alas, we fight in the very name of these saintly souls who carried the message from Divinity. There can be no bigger tragedy than this. Fighting in the name of GOD!! What else could be more ironic?

These great souls gave us the message of peace, bliss, love, acceptance and forgiveness. Let us not limit these teachings to our own narrow visions.

Joanna - Personal advice - If you feel connected to Christ. So be it. It is a great thing. Hold on to his light in your heart. Do not hold on to just the physical form as such, but the very conciousness of that special personality. Make him a part of your life. And surrender from within. Light will guide you further. Pray to him to break all barriers of your mind and gradually but surely it will happen. But do not keep any prejudices against those who think different. He is an embodiment of infinite Love. Feel it, be it. Same holds true with any other personality.

A great saint from India, master of Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna, practiced many religions, one at a time. And arrived at the same spiritual state with each one. He never once denounced any religion. Once when he was presented with a boy who wanted to convert from Christianity to Hinduism, by his disciples, he rebuked them for their foolishness and advised the young man to go and understand his own religion first. If he still couldn't arrive at any truth, he told him to come for clarifications, but not blind rejection of one system and equally blind acceptance of another.

And Yes Joanna, you are right, we must move beyond religion!!

Let us keep our faiths in our hearts, strong and unshakable, but at the same time let us experience & enjoy the variety outside. Let us pray to the Lord for Love and Knowledge. Let us break the old patterns and move towards being great compassionate souls.

Love is the way. Peace is the path. Beyond lies the Goal.

      Infinite Love & Gratitudes,

      Sameer

  5. My belief is simple, humans,I am here to clarify things and get them clarified with positive discussion! Simple! My belief is That Jesus or Isa (Peace Be Upon Him) is the Messenger of God and not His son! The book he got was changed by people and then Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH came as the last messenger with God's final book whose words He has promised to keep safe! It is accepted by all that the text of Holy Quran is the same as when it was revealed!
    http://www.evilbible.com/Biblical%20Contradictions.htm
Maybe Christianity could be fine but please clarify me.OK? I'm a truth seeker. And my current knowledge tells me Islam's the best. So I'm asking you to tell me about Christianity and how you can form a bond with Prophet Jesus PBUH when the very info about him in Bible is incorrect! Kindly help me. With sensible reasoning and without using poor language. This is just a platform where people help each other find truth. Thanks. As for Mr. mk. Sorry sir but you are really ignorant! Mr mk please check out Dr. Keith Moore. I feel really sorry for you. Kindly Google him. Kindly check out the definition of Messiah! You mention Muslims are begging to come to Non- Muslim states. I think you are forgetting something. You are in Iraq, in Palestine, In Holy city of Jerusalem(you know what you always did when you had it with Muslims and what they did to you when they had it),in Kashmir, In Muslim states captured by Russia, in Afghanistam,in Pakistan. Many other places too! As soon as you get the out of there, they'll get out too! You want their stuff, oils and etc!
    This is Mr mk again:

Kindly tell me where Islam copied it from! That's 1400 years ago. Tell me the source. Thank you! So you agree Mark and Luke were not apostles. Funny thing though! I thought Bible was the word of God written by Himself!(it's been changed by people!) And where 's the original language of Bible? Arabic is still alive and major language in many countries! Mention your sources Mr mk. 99 % of inventions! I think I should not comment on this! Do you know about Jabir Bin Hayan and Al-Khwarizmi. That's just to let you know where you stand is not due to you! And to let you know that research was what the Muslims gave you! Today they are wayward because they are trying to imitate you! And that's why I said that to know Islam you don't have to see the Muslims but the content. And the translation of Holy Quran is not right on many sites! Another Conspiracy courtesy of your lot! And explain this too. You are quoting '' somehow the three of the two apostles met Christ''. Explain your somehow. Is this a fairy-tale? Somehow's are where are are confusion. Are contradictions! And your last comment proves you are an insolent fool! Why? Because you haven't researched! You think you' really a champ, the reality is you have no knowledge! I'd recommend you to read a book! 160 Miracles and Mysteries of the Holy Quran! After reading it answer me! If you are such a champ prove me that Christianity is better that which already one of you Miss Jo has said is not cool as a religion but then she invites to read the Bible! Anyways hope you'll reply soon! With your sources. Thanks!

      ===========
      http://www.evilbible.com/Biblical%20Contradictions.htm

I'll take the first contradiction just to show you the stupidity of that webpage.

      1. God is satisfied with his works
      Gen 1:31
God is dissatisfied with his works.
      Gen 6:6

This is from the first book of the Old Testament. Gen 1:30-1:31:

30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

      And this is Gen 6:5-6:8:

5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.
6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.
7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”
8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

      >>>>>>>
So as you see both are taken out of context and do not really contradict each other. That page is silly and just look up each line on your own and you will notice they are all out of context.

      ===========

You like to claim the Bible is changed. Who changed it? Why? What advantages? Were those changes never corrected? This is pure hate talk. No positive discussion coming from you from all I see.

      Keith L. Moore

Keith L. Moore was working for King Abdulaziz University, a state (funded) university in Saudi Arabia, at the time of this research. Thus Dr Moore's work there was funded by the Saudi government.

So as I am not a scientist, here is a scientific answer on Dr Moore's work:

I know the definition of the Messiah. Seems the Jews and Christians agree on His definition and role. Muslims do not. Why is that, I wonder...

      ===========

You are mistaking two completely different things. Our governments want the oil of the area. None of us actually wants to live in the Middle East and the rest of the Muslim countries.

On the other hand, your people try every way to get out of your countries. And no, they are not refugees. If they were refugees it would not be over 90% males 20-35 years old. It would be over 90% women, children and old people aka the ones that actually need help.

The Christian bible is divided in the Old Testament and the New Testament.

The Old Testament is the Hebrew Bible. Most of it is written by Hebrew prophets, Hebrew Historians, etc. It talks about the Jews as the God's chosen people. The Old testament was written in Hebrew.

The New Testament talks about Jesus. Jesus said to spread God to everyone. Not just Jews. Thus the New Testament was written in Greek as that was the 'lingua franca' of the time since Alexander the Great.

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John do not contradict each other, so I do not see why it is a problem if the 2 of them were not apostles.

Muslims forced the people in Arabic-speaking countries to change language as it was the language of your prophet. Do you think the Egyptians -for example- did not have a language and a brilliant civilization before Islam?

      ===========

Jabin Bin Hayan and Al-Khwarizmi? You probably consider algebra something that Islam contributed to civilization. Well, maybe the name "Algebra" because that is where it ends. You like to call the numbers indo-arabic? Well, Indians found them, you copied. You think there was no algebra before Islam? Look up Diophantus. Over 99% of everything can be attributed to Europeans and North Americans. Feel free to thank us.

  6. Jo you are a very nice person. I had this opinion in the first place. Still I think you are a reasonable person! I mean why are you trying to narrow yourself. See Islam is a religion plus a relation. How? We have a common point: Mecca. Where we unite everywhere in millions and bow in front of our God. Accept His greatness and the truth that none is His equal! And why do you think that Muslims don't have a bond with God? God has been helping and been in the very hearts of all the people from the beginning! Anyone can know God but there are ways! When you accept His unity and you understand that Islam is the last and best religion. I beg you to open your mind yourself and invite you to read all the parts of Bible and all related religious books! And then you'd know what I'm saying but complete understanding will be there when you will read the Holy Quran! And the translations of it are present. The beautiful style of recital in Arabic is not present in any other language. An example is in the following link:

.Why don't you at least read the Truth. Please Jo it's my request to you to see this video and then go through Islam because sadly in your place media misguides you and tells you wrong about Islam! I hope you will embrace the truth one day! Read it for your own sake with the thought of learning something. If you or anyone will they'll know the truth God-willingly! And I believe you are not a coward! But a brave person, brave enough to stand with the truth and not against it!

Answer me after watching this. You don't even know your own religion mk. The ''claimed apostles'' do contradict each other. One thing I came to know though. People have been ''correcting'' the Bible! Ask yourself: God needs correction? Anyways you know this better. What? Well, our Holy Book thank God is you see having it's original text unlike yours. Where one can easily feel that the author is one! So I figured that too thanks to you and my previous knowledge that your Book is having multiple authors! With it's contradicting text! And the site you were correcting. Even if you are correcting some for the new Bible writers to correct there's a lot left to be corrected which can't be overlooked! It is not without a reason that a vast majority of Christians are becoming seculars etc! And the book I mentioned was not mentioned to make you know of the Apostles! It was for you to understand the simplicity and greatness of Islam! And finally none of your proofs are wise but are foolish! And childish! Go study Islam and before that Christianity Sir. As a human and your sympathising one I'd recommend you! You'd know the truth! Either you think you have knowledge or you don't have it! you have no authority to say anything about Islam because you haven't studied. Making faith! See these videos! you'd get way closer to the truth! And then study both the Religions and not their followers! Farewell!

    1. More crap from you! No I am not going to watch a video of over 1 hour about some nutcase that decided to switch religion or any other video whatsoever telling me to switch to Islam - and I doubt any self-respecting human would.

      ==============

"When you accept His unity and you understand that Islam is the last and best religion."

I had a revealing experience yesterday about the benefits of Islam in the islamic world and I would like to share that story.

I live in Athens. Athens is a city where Muslims are being killed by neo-nazis on the street because of their race, and illegal mosques bombed every other day during prayer. Official mosques do not exist. So, I was driving to McDonald's to get a HAMburger and was waiting on a traffic light. There's an annoying custom here that third world immigrants from Islamic "countries" BUG you to "clean" your windshield and people sometimes give them a few cents for humanitarian reasons. So the usual suspect approached. Just a few meters behind him there was an enormous banner saying in many languages (including Arabic) about the eu-funded repatriation program for illegal immigrants. He offered to clean my windshield. I told him no and he went to the next car to bug another driver.

Alright, but what is so revealing about this story?

      1) EVERY car has windshield wipers so their "job" is useless.
      2) Those parasites will continue to bug me every day.
      3) When they approach they touch the car and windows with their dirty hands, but yeah no respect of other people's property.
      4) They don't actually clean the windows because their water is dirty as they get it from sewers, so when the water dries you have a much dirtier windshield that smells bad. My father made the mistake once and learned his lesson.
      5) But the most revealing of all, is that those people would rather live in a town where they are not wanted and smudge windows for a living than go back home to the Islamic 'paradises' of the Middle East and North Africa completely free by calling the EU number!

If that does not tell you enough about Islam, I don't know what does.

      ==============

The apostles do not contradict each other. Also, studying the followers usually says alot more about the religions than the books of the religions.

      ============

But what I love so much about that God the Quran teaches us about, is -as you say- how God "has been helping and been in the very hearts of all the people from the beginning" and I would like to provide you with a verse full of LOVE from the Quran:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At-Tawba_29

"Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Messenger have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection."

Now what kind of God that loves us all and has been helping ALL people as you say, would order his followers to fight and tax!!! others. When I hear a politician talk about new taxes, I think "greedy @##$@#$@." Is that what the Quran has turned God into? That's blasphemy!

As you say, God loves us. And, personally, I think this is the most important message of Christianity: That God loves us and He tells us that we should love each other too.

Jesus tells us we should love everyone (John 13:34,) even our enemies (Luke 6:27-31.) He also said that we should pay taxes regardless if the authorities were Christian or not (Matthew 22:21.) But according to you that is not what Jesus said as the apostles are not real apostles. And, of course, thank God we got Muhammad to come spread God's love (by force) so that whoever is not a Muslim will be fought and taxed (with lots of love!) Dear Saad, is that the God's love that you are preaching? How many more genocidal wars against Israel do you need? And when will the genocide against Christians end in your countries?

      mk

  7. Sorry Sir but I have known few men the likes of you! Cool! You gave NO COMMENT ABOUT THE CONTRADICTIONS IN BIBLE BECAUSE YOU KNOW THE STORY THERE! Even you accept that Bible is NO MORE GOD's word!
    That's you admitting:
The apostles do not contradict each other. Also, studying the followers usually says alot more about the religions than the books of the religions.
NO WONDER WHY SO MANY CHRISTIANS ARE BECOMING SECULARS! Yes you HAVE to take that support but sadly it fails! And you are such a person! Hello, wake up! I can quote you such examples of Christians wiping my windshield car but unlike you we don't hate them but accept them as humans! And according to you YOUR EVOLVING RELIGION PREACHES LOVE! YES THAT's WHY YOU ARE KILLING THOSE MUSLIMS AT YOUR PLACE: HATS OFF TO YOUR INTELLECT! HATS OFF! And you are also KILLING BY ENTERING FORCIBLY IN MUSLIM COUNTRIES: GET A GRIP! And about that verse. This is enough as an answer!

    1. Your contradictions videos are stupid. There are no contradictions. Get over it.

I don't hate window cleaners nor Muslims. I am just annoyed by those parasites that force me to have to close my windows every few mins in this extreme summer heat because they are so famous of attacking people who won't give them money and have their windows open. And they all just happen to come from that cradle of humanity called the Middle East.

And I am not killing anyone nor did I say that those people killing them are practicing Christians. No practicing Christian would do such a thing. They are just people fed up with the number of immigrants. And I am fed up too. The country's name is Greece because Greek people live here.

Let me put it in a different perspective. Let's say Greece is a country of 10 mil people and we bring 100 mil Pakistanis there. Can that country still be Greece? Will the Greek people be able to continue in their way of life, have their language, their culture, their quality of life? No, they won't or they won't for too long. Greece will become another Pakistan. This is not about religion. This is about country and it is something many locals here feel the need to protect.

Anyway, I only mentioned this to show you that illegal immigrants are not welcome in this country lately; but even when they are not welcome, they'd still rather live in this hostile city than the Middle East.

As for entering Muslim countries, let me remind you that America started this war because of the terror attacks in the name of Islam.

"The options were not convert, die, or pay the tax."

This is absolutely right. They were not just
      1) convert
      2) die
      3) pay tax in money

      There were also:
      4) if married with children pay tax by having the boys 5-16 years old islamified and taken as soldiers
      5) if married with children pay tax by having the girls 9+ years old taken and sold as sex slaves to harems
      6) if able-bodied pay tax by becoming slave

"This tax exempted them from military service and gave them special status under the Islamic system. "

Not special status. That's an euphemism. The reality is they were second class citizens and they still are in all non-secular islamic countries.

"In fact, the Ottomans' elite military corp, the Janissaries, were predominantly Christian."

Pure lie. They were children taken from Christian parents at a very young age by force, force-islamified and trained to be the Sultan's elite soldiers.

The Ottoman empire had two taxes to Christians. The "jizyah" aka the poll tax from the Quran and "devsirme" aka the blood tax, which was taking children from Christian families to become the sultans' army.

"When the Spanish Jews fled the Catholics, where did they go? They sought refuge with the Ottoman Muslims in Istanbul. "

The vast majority of them settled in Ottoman Thessaloniki (Salonika.)

So, in other words, that page is full of crap and the Quran does say that non-Muslims have to pay tax. The Quran does not say what the tax should be, but whether that's money or slavery or giving away kids, it's still a tax.

  8. Hey Joanna,

Buddhism was established before the time of Jesus Christ. Buddhist scripture doesn't mention Jesus, & he has nothing to do with its teachings.

In Islam, one must believe in & love Jesus Christ, peace be upon him. The Qur’an is a book, of over 6,000 verses, which was revealed to the prophet Muhammed over 1,400 years ago in Mekkah, Saudia Arabia. It remains in its original Arabic form till this day, not even a letter or an apostrophe being altered. A fifth of the world’s population believe in this book, & millions of people across the world have memorized this book in its entirety.

What was the Message of Jesus? … He was a messenger of God, sent to the Children of Israel with the following:

And I have come confirming that which was before me of the Torah, and to make lawful to you part of what was forbidden to you, and I have come to you with a proof from your Lord. So fear God and obey me. Truly, God is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him (Alone). This is the Straight Path’” [Noble Qur’an 3:50-51]

God is absolutely perfect in His powers of Creation. He creates what He wills, how He wills. He created Adam from dust without a father or a mother, & He created Eve from the rib of Adam from a father but without a mother. He has caused the descendents of Adam to have both a father & a mother, & He created Jesus from his mother without a father… Glory be to the All-Knowing Creator.

Jesus & his mother slept, got hungry, ate, wept etc, this does not befit God, the Almighty creator.

So let’s think - At the time of e.g. Noah or Jethro or Jonah or Abraham or David etc - how did these prophets call to God? They all preached the same message - asking their people to testify that there is no diety worthy of worship besides God (Allah). Our simple and clear purpose in life - this is what Jesus came with – it’s in the innate nature of man to believe in this message of tawheed (the oneness of God), the trinity contradicts this.

God communicated this same message to mankind, through his messengers, from Adam to Muhammed, peace be on them all – Muhammed was the seal of the messengers (the last of them) & the Qur’an abrogates the rulings which came before & confirms the true beliefs & stories that were mentioned in them.

Say, "O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you - that we will not worship except God and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of God." But if they turn away, then say, "Bear witness that we are Muslims [those who submit God]."

Please think deeply Joanna (& I believe you will) about what you have read & seek guidance sincerely from God. God, The Most Generous will never let any of His servants down. God is the One Who guides to the Straight Path, and He is Sufficient for us & is the best disposer of affairs.

  9. Hi guys....
I smiled while reading these comments....
Debate doesn't get anyone anywhere...only causes us to lose etiquette with each other and further distance ourselves from focussing on the things that are common between us....
Faith is a light which God casts into the hearts of those whom He has desired to be felicitous, according to His Pre--eternal knowledge of their sincerity and truthfulness....
So one has to continually implore God to guide on to the right...as there are varying degrees...and each will reach according to their capacity...

I suppose this is why the Muslim Holy Book puts an and end to all the debate by posing the following challenge:

The truth is from god so be not of those who doubt. So if any of them (Christians) dispute with thee after clear knowledge has come to thee, then tell them: come let us gather our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves; then let us earnestly pray and invoke the curse of God on those who lie
    3:61

    So let's???

  10. So true. Can't wait to worship in His Kingdom with you sister! In the city with no sun, since He is our light.

By chance have you read any C.S. Lewis? I would imagine, as you are British, but if not I would really recommend it.

May the Lord bless you sister.

    1. Hey Jacob, thank you for your comment. I cannot wait either! Yes I have read C.S Lewis, I loved the screwtape letters, and am yet to read mere Christianity. What is your favourite? I really do admire him and his wonderful literature!

      God Bless you Jacob :)

  11. I am partial to The Great Divorce. I feel that Lewis really intuits on a lot of deep truths in it. The Screwtape Letters is also great! And the Narnia books, though children's books on the surface, contain much wisdom as well.

I agree with your initial post. We Christians are very adapt at turning our walk with God into a series of rules or regulations. And I think moving from that mindset of approaching God, to the mindset of a relationship is a constant process.

    Shalom

  12. I just wanted to steal some of your time and tell you a little story. Then, if you like, you can tell me what you think about it.

There was once a man, a good man, honest and simple, who lived in a big city in the north. In a summer evening he fell asleep outside on the porch and had a dream. He saw a bright light in the sky and dreamed of an angel, who held in his hands a great book. The man, curious and intrigued, said "What is written in that book?". The angel replied "In this book are written the names of those who love the Lord". The man then asked "Is there my name?". The angel laid his eyes on the book and answered "No, your name is not here". But the man had always been good, thus he became sad and frowned. A little later he bowed his head, then he looked up, frightened, and said "I'm sorry, can you at least put on my name among those who love the others, who love all the human beings, for I've always acted with love". The angel wrote his name down and faded away. The man's dream ended. In the next evening, still with the heat of the day in the air, the man fell asleep on the porch again, and dreamed again of the angel, in a bright light. The angel had another great book in his hands and the man asked "What are you reading in that book?. The angel replied "In this book are written the names of those who are loved by the Lord". The man then humbly whispered "Is there my name?". The angel answered "Yes, it's the first one".

    1. God is love, when you love others you are loving like Jesus. I believe it. God loves all of us no matter what we do. Even when we are blind to his love, he is always there. He loves unconditionally. He loves it when we love, it is the greatest thing to do, to love.
But to love others you must know Jesus to love more than is humanly possible.

  13. God bless you, Joanna! Ever since I discovered your blog, I started realizing some things, that's why your blog is so important to me!
Today when I read your comment for January 5, I realized that people are also capable of loving unconditionally! Before, I thought that only Jesus could love unconditionally, and that people could love but not unconditional. I always witnessed how people that I know love certain people, but there are always things that could cause them to love a person less, or even stop loving them :( .. So i always thought that complete unconditional love was not possible for humans :( .. But then when I read your last comment, I realized that if a person could know the essence of how Jesus loves us all more than what is humanly possible, then we could achieve that unconditional love and to love others that way.... THANK YOU for your words! I almost gave up, thinking that it was not possible for humans to love the way He loves---which is unconditional.. but now I am kindled with hope.

I think your blog entry for August 30 was the greatest you've ever posted! I will save the link, and I will send it to some people I know who have lost their faith...They mostly complained about Christianity having "strict rules" that they had to follow in order to get to heaven :( They said that there were the 10 Commandments and so many other little "commandments" scattered through out the Bible ... But after reading your blog entry, I would tell them that they should not try to follow the commandments in the Bible..because they are not guides that they should follow..But they would do better if they would put Jesus in the center of their universe, and if they really accept Him, they themselves would naturally do the virtues that the commandments signify, even if they do not know the commandments at all. I'd tell them the commandments they read in the Bible are not rules and guides to be followed, but rather as Results that they could produce if they have Jesus in their hearts!

Thank you for your blog! You are from the other side of the world, and yet your love for Jesus reaches here! You are able to inspire me here through Jesus' love, for His love never fails to reach all!
    God bless you deeply!

    1. Oh dear Ramon, Bless you for all your encouraging posts! What you have just written has brightened my day and my year of 2013. I am so glad the reason for Christianity can be shared to as many people as possible! Do send it to your friends, I hope they come to realise that only their love for Jesus is all that matters because when they have that love everything else falls into place. With that love comes faith, trust, goodness, faithfulness, purity, hope, courage- everything, all the fruits of the spirit: 'But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.' Galatians 5:22

And yes I truly believe mere mortals can love like Jesus loves. If we are filled with the spirit than love joy and peace will pour out of us! It doesn't mean things will be exceptionally easier for us, our path will be narrow and we will stumble, but we have our Rock to call out to to- the one who will give us no heart ache.

May God bless you Ramon and may you go out into your world and be a living example of Jesus, may the light of God be radiant in your face.

      :)

  14. Dearest Joanna, I'm so joyful when you said that my posts brightened your day and your year of 2013, because it is also exactly what your posts had caused me to feel! :) Your blog is a great wonder, and I wish that I have more time, because whenever I browse through your blog, I see more and more inspiring thoughts from your older posts! They don't seem to end! Never stop praising Him, and spreading His love! :)

I do believe in what you said, that with the love of Jesus, everything comes into place :) Thank you for Galatians 5:22 ! That is the passage that I'd tell to my friends! :) They once told me that they were not avid readers of the Bible, and when they read, they could not memorize the names and numbers of the passages. But like you said, like what is written in Galatians 5:22, with The Spirit, the love of God, a person would have those fruits, those results. THAT is the one and only thing they have to do, to love God, to receive His love, and everything would come into place. They would know essence of the Bible without having to memorize everything in it. Like you said, it could not make things exceptionally easier, but the most glorious thing is: During the time that we stumble, we may find it hard or impossible to solve problems, but the presence of inspired love from Him, that sense of deep feeling for him, would prevent us from being too bothered, worried, and doubtful about ever passing through the challenges. :)

Thank you for all your inspiration, Joanna! You are a living example of His love, and the light of God is so radiant in your face, sometimes literally. :)
    May God bless you!
